Ashimzhan Zhanarbek is a Kazakh poet and journalist. He was born on April 1, 1976 in the Zhalanash village, located in Almaty area.
In 1999 he graduated from the faculty of journalism of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. His first works were published in such regional and areal printing editions as «Khantaniry» and «Zhetysu».
In 1996-1999 Ashimzhan Zhanarbek worked as a correspondent in the Almaty akzhamy city newspaper, and in 2000 as an editor of a department in the Kazakhstan magazine.
In 2000-2005 he continued his activity in the Zhas Alash republican newspaper as a manager of department, in 2005-2008 worked as a deputy editor-in-chief of the Zhas Kazak national weekly.
Since 2008 Ashimzhan Zhanarbek fulfills duties of the director of the Kalamguer media center that units such magazines as Zhuldyz, Prostor, Syn and Kazak adebiety newspapers under the direction of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan.
In 2002 he became the owner of the Grand Prix of the international Shabyt festival. The owner of the first place diploma of the republican competition of poets devoted to Omirbay Sauirbayev in Turkestan, the owner of the Grand Prix of the international poetic competition «Bir olen – bir alem» organized by «BankTuranAlem».
He was awarded a special medal «For a contribution to journalism» by a rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
In 2004 his poems were published in anthologies of young poets of Olke publishing house.
Today Ashimzhan Zhanarbek is a chairman of republican council of young writers at the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan.
